The enchanting and exciting season of Spring is getting geared up for a special tour, with lunch included, at the National Trust’s Rowallane Garden near Saintfield.
Join the Head Gardener on a ‘Behind the Garden Wall’ walk on Saturday 10 May at 10.30am and hear about the conservation work and thought processes to keep this charming 148 year old garden blooming.
"This is an exciting time in the gardening calendar when all those long awaited buds start to unfurl and you can smell the sap rising in the air" said Head Gardener, Averil Milligan.
"On the tour you will be able to catch the spectacular trees and plants in mid spring flower and consider how we preserve them".
The tour will also go beyond the garden wall by venturing into the Woodland Walk, which surrounds the garden. Explanations of the current conservation and access uses of this area, which should be scented with bluebells, will provide an interesting and informative visit. The tour will also explore parts of the garden which are not open to the public such as the propagation and nursery unit.
After working up a healthy appetite join Averil for lunch within the courtyard area where she will be available to answer further questions.
Booking essential, £10 per person. Outdoor clothing and footwear advisable.
