Come along and enjoy Mount Stewart ’s very own Air Show on Saturday 12 May, as the Ulster Model Aircraft Club continues the Skybirds tradition, at the beautiful National Trust gardens on the Ards Peninsula .
Marvel at the expertise of model makers from 70 years ago as you view the Mount Stewart collection of Skybirds model aircraft, and be amazed at the wonderful remote-controlled aircraft displays. The aerobatics of the model helicopter should thrill everyone!
Skybirds was a company founded in 1930 by James Hay Stevens. It produced the first true model construction kits, and pioneered the scale 1/72nd, which is still used today by Airfix and its competitors. The Londonderry family collection of Skybirds model aircraft at Mount Stewart is considered to be the most comprehensive of the first properly scaled construction kits in the UK . There are over 100 models in the collection.
Bring your own model aircraft, meet the expert model-makers and admire the remote-controlled aircraft demonstrations in the skies above the spectacular National Trust gardens.
The special afternoon begins at 12Noon until 4pm and promises to be an insight into another dimension of life at Mount Stewart .
Normal admission applies. For further details please contact Mount Stewart on 028 4278 8387.
